Vice President of Software Engineering
1. Establish the technical vision for the company while monitoring the competitive landscape to identify industry and technology trends.
2. Develop strategies to introduce new or complementary products or technologies that will increase market share.
3. Establish and direct departmental goals and objectives and ensure alignment with strategic business objectives.
4. Drive strategic planning and budgeting process for IT organization.
5. Set a high standard for teamwork, results, and levels of customer awareness and service and have the ability to be flexible and adaptable when necessary.
6. Hire, manage and retain top-notch engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
7. Participate as an integral member of the company’s executive management team.
The Job Requirements:
1. 10-15 years of experience in software management, including a minimum of 5 years at a senior management level at a company larger than 200 people.
2. 5-10 years experience in managing large development projects of 100 plus people.
3. 5+ years of experience as a software developer in J2EE applications and Unix/Linux infrastructure.
4. Prior experience building highly available software systems essential.
5. BS in computer science, math or a related field preferred, an MS or PhD a plus.
6. A strategic thinker that can develop and articulate a plan for organizational development appropriate for direction and growth.
7. Excellent communication skills in both written and oral forms, with staff members, customers, suppliers, and the management team with the ability to make decisions, take action and get results.
8. Experience managing across multiple technical areas a plus (e.g., applications development, network engineering, and operations).
9. Ability to understand the business and apply technology solutions to deliver results and products, while staying current in technology trends.
10. A hands on active leader and mentor who enjoys face time with their team and who will provide appropriate direction and guidance in the development of the IT staff capable of setting clear and measurable expectations.
11. Knowledgeable in the use of structured project methodologies and/or project planning tools. Experience in instituting standards, procedures and methodologies always looking for areas of improvement and better ways to do things.
12. Demonstrated skill in the development of policies and procedures needed to provide a scalable and effective IT service function.
